Where Are All the Personal Trainer Jobs?
So, you decided to become a personal trainer. You’ve got the education and you have the training, but now you’re having trouble getting the personal trainer job that you’ve been working so hard for. You should know that you are not alone. In fact, there are lots of personal trainers who are looking for jobs right now. It probably has something to do with the economy, but you need to know that you can beat the economy and make your personal training business thrive if you have the right tools.
As you well know, much of the time, personal trainers work through a gym. Some gyms will hire you directly, while others have you work as an “idependent contractor”. When business is good, memberships are up and that means that you’re busier than ever. Unfortunately, with the economy looking as it does these days, it might seem as if the last thing on a person’s list of things to pay for is the all important membership to the gym. This might mean that if you’re looking for a personal trainer job, the pickin’s are slim right now.
Who Says You Have to Have a “J-O-B”?
Well, why not make your own job? Seriously. Now, this might sound a little off the wall, but if you have all the creds, then all you need is the business. You would be so surprised to find out that you can get business from all over the place and next thing you know, your personal trainer job isn’t just a job, it’s a full time fitness business. Here are some tips that will not only get you lots of personal trainer jobs, but will also get you the business you want to have.
Start A Website
- Start a health website that people who are looking for a cost effective way to get in shape can join. Sure there are plenty of them out there, but by creating “individualized” programs and including videos to help your members lose weight and get in shape, you will find that your site can stand out on it’s own. Now, this isn’t for the feint of heart, and the advertising, building and maintaining of the site will take time, but with the right keywords and marketing, you will find that you have a money making following in no time. Make sure to include all your credentials, so that people know you’re the real deal.
Market, Market, Market Your Skills
- Consider marketing yourself a little better. It’s not enough to just soar through Monster.com and Hot Jobs.com. While these may occasionally offer some good leads, you have to consider how much competition is out there right now and do your best to get past it. Consider starting an “in home” personal trainer service as your job. You’ll have to make sure that you are properly insured and it’s a good idea to see an attorney so you can get the proper waivers in place, but this could be a great way to get lots of personal trainer jobs without having to get a “job” like so many of your counterparts. Curious how to get started? No problem, do some networking. Offer incentives such as free trials and bonuses for referrals and you might just be on to something.
Before you go bemoaning the economy and talking about how you can’t find any personal trainer jobs, rethink your approach to a job. You went to school to become a personal trainer, so get out there and do just that – be a personal trainer. Just because you can’t find a “job” doesn’t mean you can’t do what you love. So, get out there and get it started.
You’ll be thrilled with your results.
