Internet Marketing For Personal Trainers [Part 1 of 4]
In today’s technologically advanced society, owning the internet can be as valuable as owning real estate. How much of the World Wide Web do you own?
With a mass of intricate web pages, videos, blogs, podcasts, social media sites, PPC, banner ads, eZines… where do you start carving a piece of the market for yourself?
And more importantly, how do you profit from it and do it for cheap?
If you own a website, what percent of new prospects do you get from it? 1% 2% 5%…
If you don’t own a website, you’re in luck!
In this series of 4 lessons I am going to walk your through how to capture 20%, 30% even up to 60% of the leads that go to your website and turn them into paying customers.
A simple formula that gives you an endless amount of targeted prospects is…
Traffic x Conversion = Prospects
So how do we accomplish this?
First you need a webpage… notice I did not say website. You need a one-page website that captures your prospect’s email address.
How do we do this?
We give the prospect something of value for free in exchange for their email address. Most likely a free report, digital eBook, mp3, video…
Take a look at the capture page of this site where I offer a Free Personal Trainer Marketing And Business Bootcamp to all my new subscribers.
Why do we do this?
We want to build a relationship with the potential client first. Most users are not going to contact you or purchase anything off your website the first time they visit. They need to trust you and the best way to build trust is by giving them valuable content.
The problem with the capture page (one page website) is that it doesn’t rank high on the search engines because they want content. Capture pages are designed to convert prospects into buyers and in lesson 4 of this short series, I will teach you how to get impressive conversions up to 60% or more.
But first, I am going to teach you how to get massive traffic and exposure to your capture page for free…
There are hundreds if not thousand of ways you can use the internet to help build your Personal Trainer Business. Some cost an arm and a leg, some are free. Many will cost you a fortune and a few will make you money.
Today I want to focus on the first of three things you can do right now to start using Internet Marketing to capture laser targeted leads into your marketing funnel for your Personal Training Business…
Step 1 – Create A Personal Trainer Blog…
Go to www.wordpress.com and grab a free account. Name your blog something relevant to your business that is searchable for what you are after.
What you name your blog will show up like www.<yourBlogTitle>.wordpress.com.
A good name if you are a Personal Trainer in Vancouver would be www.VancouverPersonalTrainers.WordPress.com (hint if you are a personal trainer in Vancouver grab this address. Currently it’s still available and is a prime address for adding a ton of free traffic for your Personal Trainer Business)
A not so good name would be www.TomsFitness.wordpress.com or www.GatorsGym.wordpress.com
No one is going to type in Toms Fitness on Google looking for a personal trainer. You are interested in attracting new clients so your blog name must be something that a prospect would search for.
I guarantee some people who live in Vancouver and want to find a personal trainer in their area would type in “Vancouver Personal Trainers”.
If you live in a big city, you may consider being more specific and grab the suburb of the city you work in.
Think of your existing clients. What would they type in to find you?
Once up and running, blog away.
Write valuable content related to your Personal Training Business. Have a place to capture prospects emails by using an autoresponder and you will be on your way to new clients in no time.
When you finish updating your blog you can ping it to tell the search engines that it needs to be re-indexed. I use this service to do it. http://pingomatic.com/
Make sure you use your city/suburb in the title, description, and content of the website. You want to attract local traffic to your blog so you can get more clients for your Personal Trainer Business.
Note: If you own a website, you can purchase a domain for cheap and mask the domain so it does not have the .wordpress in the domain name. Also if you understand code or can afford a web programmer it is relatively easy to download the WordPress software from www.wordpress.org so you have full control over your site.
I use Wordpress and that’s what this blog is created in.
If you are taking my Personal Training Business Bootcamp then look for Part II in your inbox in a couple of days.
If you are not yet started on my Personal Trainer Business Bootcamp then head over right now and get started today.
If you are a blogger, what platform are you using? How often do you add new content? Has it been successful for you?

Casey this is great advice. I have been using internet marketing for a while and it has proved to work well for me. I am a personal trainer in New York so the poulation is huge and lots of people are searching for personal trainers in my area. The internet has definately helped me through the recession.
I am using a blog now, but having read this post I know that I can make some improvements. I am also going to go ahead and get an autoresponder, I am sure it would help me retain clients longer.
Thanks for the bootcamp, I loved it and the Secret Weapon was fantastic!
Christine
