Where Is The Fitness Industry Heading?

Posted By Casey Kaldal

Where-fitness-industry-headingIt’s never easy to think about the future. That’s especially so today. The recession means that we’re all focusing on getting through the next month or week. But business owners need to think about where the fitness industry is heading, and the changes that they’ll have to make to attract clients and make money.

I know that no one likes the word “change.” It’s an especially scary word for business owners. But I have some good news for you: Many of the changes coming to the fitness industry will actually benefit you and your business.

Let’s start with online marketing. You may have gotten by so far with traditional advertising. Maybe you take out an ad in the local newspaper. You might rely on placing flyers in local coffee shops, restaurants and bookstores. That’s not going to be good enough for long. In fact, it might not even be good enough right now.

Online marketing is the future

Today, and certainly in the future, you’ll need to concentrate more of your time on online marketing. You’ll have to post your class schedule on your Facebook page. You’ll need to spread the word about discounts and referral programs through Twitter. You’ll benefit from creating and maintaining a fitness blog. And you should be scripting and filming short videos on YouTube. One of the strategies in the Personal Trainer’s Secret Weapon uses videos and YouTube to create an extra cash cow.

If you resist this change, if you ignore the online social networking sites, you’ll miss out on the growing youth market. That’s like throwing money away. This isn’t a negative, though. It takes time to master online marketing. But once you do, you’ll find that it’s an extremely effective way to attract new customers. And don’t forget that this type of marketing is either cheap or free.

The online marketing boom is just one of several changes that you’ll have to be ready for.

For instance, you’ll also need to start offering shorter one-on-one training sessions with your students. You might balk at this. But remember, your clients are busy people. They’re working longer hours and juggling more responsibilities. They simply don’t have time for 60-minute workout sessions. You may have to focus more on 30-minute or 45-minute sessions. If you really want to take up your game try 425 – How to make $425 an hour as a Personal Trainer.

Don’t get too upset at this. You can cram a lot of fitness education in half an hour. Shorter sessions also allow you to schedule more clients during the day. That can be a profitable change for your business.

Big classes equal big profits

Prepare yourself for working with larger groups, too. People enjoy exercise classes. There’s a feeling of camaraderie when several students gather together for a single goal. Make sure to offer several group classes during the week. You may also consider holding specialized fitness boot camps during the year. Like group exercise classes, these intense camps are steadily gaining popularity.

Finally, don’t be surprised if your clients expect you to be their fitness mentor. They’ll want your thoughts on putting together heart-healthy diets. They’ll call you for advice on the best home exercise equipment. They may even ask if you know any local doctors who focus more on holistic medical treatments than on proscribing the latest drug. In short, they’ll want you to become a full-time health adviser.

Again, you should view this change as a positive. If you’re acting as your clients’ health adviser, you’re more important to them. That makes it more difficult for them to cut you loose when their budgets tighten. It also offers you the chance to sell eBooks and other multi-media products to customers who now view you as an essential part of their wellness programs.

Is it really true? I have never heard of it before. But i guess reading the book itself will take a lot of my time. I prefer a more specific 1 to 10 steps or instruction than a hard bound covered book.
