The demand for knowledgeable certified personal trainers is constantly increasing. People want to get healthy, they want to get fit, they want to lose weight, but they don’t know where to start. This is where you come in. As a certified personal trainer, you’ll have the knowledge and skill set to asses clients at their current fitness levels, help them set measurable and achievable goals, design unique fitness programs for each individual, and adapt their workout program as you continually monitor their progress. You’ll know how to work with a range of people from athletes in training to someone who has never set foot in a gym. You will be able to make modifications for special populations such as seniors, pregnant women, or clients with injuries or other health-related risk factors. You will be able to motivate people to take ownership of their lives and bring about the changes they’ve always wanted.

Additionally, you can earn a great fitness salary, have a flexible schedule, and meet some really incredible people along the way. Do you have what it takes?

You have a wide variety of options as far as where you work. You can be employed by a health club, a private gym, a training studio, a corporate gym for a business, or work for yourself out of your home or your own facility. You also have the option of going directly to clients’ homes. Depending on which venue you choose, you may or may not need to purchase your own equipment.

Many exercisers do not know how to use equipment properly. Personal trainers can demonstrate various exercises and offer suggestions to help clients improve their exercise techniques. Trainers also provide motivation and support. As a trainer, you will need to keep accurate records of your clients’ exercise progress and make modifications as needed.

Trainers are also lifestyle coaches. You can help your clients to develop healthy habits not only inside the gym but outside as well. You will be looked to for nutrition and overall wellness tips. As a trainer, you are constantly looking for whatever works for each individual client. This means that you have to stay up to date with new training methods and always have a steady supply of fresh ideas to keep your clients on track. You can learn to utilize a variety of tools and methods for keeping your clients motivated and energized.

Personal training jobs are challenging and are not for the lazy or unmotivated. So as you consider a career in personal training, ask yourself this, “Do you have what it takes?”
