The Adult Exersaucer
![]()
Have you ever seen a baby in an exersaucer? She jumps up and down with the help of springs, she twirls her seat around to see in every direction, and her hands and mouth are exploring several different items that move and make noise. The action is good for developing coordination and keeping her entertained.
As a personal trainer, I sometimes think of myself as a similar thing for adults. You sign up for it or get signed up with help from a friend or loved one. Baby gets put in it at regular intervals, sometimes by her own choosing if she crawls too close.
Once you’re in there, at first you don’t know what to expect. Gradually you get the hang of what’s going on, and you learn more as you go. As you figure things out, it gets easier and your skills improve. At least, that’s the idea.
If you get left in too long because someone overestimated your limits, you’re going to want to cry, complain, and give up. You get stretched beyond your comfort zone. You may not like it. You get reminders even after you’re out with aches in previously unused muscles.
With the right system, you have fun again and again. You grow with the program and eventually reach new levels. You communicate with the trainer over time to set and revise goals. I move the bar higher for you to reach new heights, just like adjusting the height of the exersaucer as the baby grows.
The toys on top improve hand-eye coordination. As baby stands she learns to balance. She’s supported throughout and everything has been tested to be safe. Likewise, I challenge you with exercise to improve your strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance. I teach you how to be safe and not hurt yourself. Each session gradually improves all your daily activities and overall health.
I want to guide you so you don’t want to give up. I give you reasons to keep going. I applaud your successes and correct your mistakes. I am here to help you grow. The personal trainer is your ticket to experience new levels of fitness by your choice. If nothing else, it gets you out of the house and away from the baby in the exersaucer. It’s not like work, where you’re probably stuck waiting for the paycheck (unless you love what you do like I do). And when you get home you’ll be able to keep up with baby that much more.
